Animation: Futures

Synopsis

Life for fish and chips is tough. Simple things like going shopping or going on holiday are full of madness and stupidity. Things will always go wrong with these two around from getting lost on an island to getting locked in at a mall no one knows where they will end up.

Story research

I came up with the idea of Fish and Chips in high school when I drew a few sketches of the characters and a quick cartoon strip.

After I decided to use the idea of Fish and Chips I knew I wanted the episodes to be like Ren and Stimpy. Each episode has no connection to each other and are really sand alone

CatDog is a show I used to watch. I used the show as reference because the characters are a cat and a dog so the different species living together are similar to a cat and a fish and the episodes are different stories

Angry beavers was another show i used to watch about two beavers living together, like Fish and Chips one is stupid and one is smart.

Character research

Fish

I looked at some real tuna fishes and how they looked and acted.

Fish and Ren’s personalities are very similar. I wanted Fish to be a bit angry and grumpy to balance with Chip’s personality.

I used the fish off spongebob Squarepants cartoon because they look similar to Fish.

Chips

I looked at a tabby cat for reference on colour and look.

I researched Simon's Cat for reference on how a cat behaves. his animations are so life like that it gives a good indication on how a cat behaves.

Garfield and Chips are quite similar in personalities. I used Garfield as a reference because he is similar to Chips. Garfield is quite lazy and greedy and I wanted Chips to be similar.

I researched a couple of stupid characters as i want Chip's personality to be the same.

Like Garfield I wanted Stimpy’s personality in Chips, I used Stimpy’s stupidity and child like mind in Chips.

Man

A Lummox from Ren and Stimpy. i wanted my extra character to be a big burly man and found that this character was a perfect reference.

Phineas and Barnaby from Family guy used as reference for the look of my character.

I used this as reference for muscle tones.

Bruce from Family Guy. Like Bruce i want my character to have several jobs in each episode for example in one episode he is a ticket booth operator and in another he is a air hostess. I also want him to be dressed as a woman for a few of them for comical value. Backgrounds
